Earth Day is right around the corner (April 22) so its a good time to thinking about drinking with dual purpose. Veev, the first acai spirit, has made it possible to drink and plant a tree all at the same time, and you won’t need to lift a shovel. For the rest of April, go into any of the partipating establishments and order a “Treetini”. While the recipe might be different at each place, the idea is the same. The ‘Treetini’ initiative for eco-enlightened drinkers plants a new tree in deforested communities of India for every VeeV Treetini cocktail ordered at participating bars and restaurants. Treetinis are sold in all locations of the Gerber Group, Broadway East (New York), Uncommon Ground (Chicago), the Setai (Miami), Stingaree (San Diego), Blue Velvet (Los Angeles), the State and Allen Lounge (Dallas), and Bar Loui (Las Vegas). For a full list of participating bars and restaurants, go to www.treetini.com.
And just in case you’re a DIY type, here’s a couple recipes and you can plant the tree yourself!

Treetini at Uncommon Ground – Chicago, IL

2 ounces Veev Açaí Spirit
2 ounces housemade honey-ginger liqueur
1 ounce orange juice
½ ounce blood orange bitters
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
Orange twist, for garnish

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the orange twist.

Treetini at Stingaree – San Diego, CA
1 ½ ounces VeeV Açaí Spirit
Splash of St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
2 ounces mango juice
1 orange slice

Muddle the orange slice in the bottom of a bar glass. Add VeeV, St. Germain, mango juice and shake well with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
